Wendell M Cramer, Founder
In the Spring of 2024, the founder of the company left this earth to be in his final home. He was a force in nature and impacted many lives with his infectious positivity and contagious generosity.
His two children, Kim and Michael, as well as Kim’s husband Mark Vollinger are honored to carry on the benchmark of doing business the way he always did—working hard and keeping your word.
In 1969 he started his own lumber brokerage business. WM Cramer Lumber moved to Hildebran, NC in 1971 as a large concentration yard with sawmills in WV, a kiln drying company in KY, and distribution yards in Oklahoma, Georgia and Florida.
Wendell was a true example of a generous Christian. He received much joy from giving to others of his time, talent, and treasure. He served his community in many ways including flying patients for medical treatments or other family emergencies and directing his church choir.
He was a lifetime member of the Hickory Kiwanis Club, where he served as President and Lt. Governor of the Carolina District. He served on the board of directors for Valdese Hospital and Davis & Elkins College. In hardwood industry, he served as President of the Appalachian Lumbermen’s club, President of the Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers and President of the National Hardwood Lumber Association.
Founded on hard work, integrity and quality, the company has grown into a full-service lumber manufacturer and distributor with multiple locations providing the finest Appalachian Hardwoods, Cypress and White Pine to customers worldwide.
The Cramer Family and a team of highly qualified industry experts continue the tradition of hard work, integrity and quality. We look forward to earning your business.
Originally drawn by June Myles, daughter of George Myles of Myles Lumber Company, "Limbo" represents a lumber rule wearing a work cap and holding two boards that make up the words: "Cramer Quality Hardwoods."
Founder Wendell M. Cramer was so impressed with the look that "Limbo" quickly found a home with WM Cramer Lumber Company. To Cramer Lumber, "Limbo" serves as a tangible symbol of our pledge to deliver the very best to our customers.
